Safety Standards and Regulations for Amusement Equipment

　　Safety is the top priority in the amusement equipment industry, with strict standards and regulations in place to protect riders and ensure the safe operation of all attractions. From design and manufacturing to installation and maintenance, every stage of an amusement ride’s lifecycle is governed by rigorous guidelines, designed to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

　　In China, the General Administration of Market Regulation has issued the Technical Regulations for Large-Scale Amusement Facilities (TSG 71-2023), which came into effect in March 2024. This regulation strengthens safety requirements for amusement equipment, covering design, manufacturing, installation, use, and inspection. It requires manufacturers to conduct risk assessments during the design phase, implement strict quality control during manufacturing, and ensure that all safety protection devices are properly installed and maintained.

 
　　One of the key requirements of the regulation is the implementation of safety redundancy—adding backup systems and multiple protection structures to ensure that rides remain safe even if a single component fails. This is similar to the triple protection system in elevators, where multiple safety mechanisms work together to prevent accidents. For example, high-speed roller coasters are equipped with emergency brakes, anti-rollback devices, and safety harnesses to protect riders in case of mechanical failure.

 
　　Regular inspection and maintenance are also critical for ensuring ride safety. The regulation requires amusement park operators to conduct daily checks before opening, regular maintenance, and annual inspections by qualified professionals. For rides that have been in use for a long time, operators must conduct safety assessments to determine if they can continue to operate safely.

　　In addition to government regulations, amusement equipment manufacturers and park operators also have a responsibility to prioritize safety. Many companies have implemented their own safety protocols, including employee training, regular equipment testing, and emergency response plans. By adhering to these standards and regulations, the amusement equipment industry can ensure that rides are safe, reliable, and enjoyable for everyone.
